Sam having worked on pipelines in LA. I too have fished Black Bayou several years ago. Made the mistake of having my catch on a stringer. Kept hearing a commotion on the side of the boat thinking it was just the fish I had on the stringer. Finally I looked and the brim was almost all eaten by a 3 foot alligator. A lesson well learned when fishing in LA.

Carl,

Thanks for the update!

I have some bright pink and bright orange that I use on my sights of my muzzle loading rifles an shotguns that I can dip the tip of these quills in and should be a nice and bright floater! Looking forward to rigging up some of those paper clips! Some of the quills I ordered already had the copper eyelet affixed to the quill with thread, others are plain!
Sam-- if and when you get your quills made up;; to connect it to your line;;; run your line- thru that rubber piece FIRST!! then thru the wire loop! that way when you measure how deep yo uwant to fish;; just slip the rubber piece down the quill; about halfway-- and thats all there is to it! also- remember;; its a balance thing!! you want the quill- to stand straight up in the water! you might have to add a real small split shot sinker to your bait to make it stand up! then;; roll…

Thanks for the response....I also remember that a large school of bass surfaced near our boat and they both franticly got into their tackle boxes and dug out an artificial and began boating bass. I was young enough not to realize what was going on until it was over. It didn't last long. ....The fella may well be related but I think the DeLoach name is quite common in the area. I was young enough not to realize what was going on until it was over. It didn't last long. ....The fella may well be related but I think the DeLoach name is quite common in the area. I tried to look the fella up a several years ago and it looked to be a hopeless task. All I remember is riding in the car for a while to get to the cabin which was right on the water in a wooded area. Of course an hour in the car seems like all day to a young'n. The trees were so thick that there was very little, if any ground cover. The cabin was a well built affair but I don't remember there being any rooms. Just one big room which included the kitchen. I've always thought I would like to go back and spend a couple days fly fishing the lake if I could figure out where it was. It sounds like there is a lot of water in the area. I have never done a good map search but I am sure that I would have come up with a blank......I do remember that we filled the bottom of the boat with sunfish.
Ray,

Ray,

If it was about 60 years ago, the body of waters full of cypress trees and sunfish( bream) within the distance you are talking about would have to have been Cross Lake just outside of Shreveport, Caddo Lake about an hour drive north of Shreveport,Black Bayou just a little north of Caddo Lake. Black Bayou is really a mecca for bream, crappie, bass and loads of cypress trees. That was my favorite place to fish when I lived in the Shreveport area.

Also south of Shreveport…

Also south of Shreveport that had cypress trees were Wallace Lake, and Lake Bisteneau!

If I had to take a guess where you and your dad went with his friend, I would say probably Caddo or Black Bayou!

Strange you mention the name DeLoach, I went to church in Shreveport with a guy whose name was Ezel DeLoach who also had two daughters, might have been related to your dad`s friend.
Hey Carl,

Sam Holdt.......When I was 8 years old my dad went to Shreveport to visit an air force buddy. During our visit dad's buddy took us to his cabin on a body of water that was full of cypress trees and sunfish. It was probably and hour away but I can't say that for sure. Man that has been 60 years ago. The man's name was Don DeLoach. Not sure of the spelling and he had 2 daughters. I am curious as what that body of water was.
