I revisited youtube just a few minutes ago, and the Davy knot seems to be tied the same as the 100% knot. The fellow on the video said he didn't know the real name of the knot, and called it the 100% knot. It is recommended for small dry flies since there is very little bulk at the hook eye. Until I learn a new knot, I will stay with the improved clinch knot and squint a little harder.

Bruce, regular is indeed is stronger than improved, because there's less twists, kinks, and creases during the knot making. However, the knot slippage is another story. Improved clinch knot, although making a crap lot more damage on the line, creates a higher grab to prevent knot slippage. We did this test on various line types in the past, and it did confirm.

Everything I’ve seen gives the Improved Clinch knot a rating of about 75%, total line strength. There are many variables that apply in this and it isn’t a complete picture. But like you, I’ve never had an Improved Clinch knot fail that couldn’t be attributed to something I did wrong.

Very interesting Leo, ill have to keep that in mind. Id be surprised if the 100% knot comes to reality, because in a fishing library book it stated that the trilene knot was rated up to 99% I think with your average 10# line. I will definitley keep my eyes and ears open for a 100% knot though, its got me curious now. thx again!
